Brian Hill - The Theatre is Empty

The Theatre is Empty is a series of black and white self portraits by photographer Brian Hill. Self-portraiture is an ongoing theme in Hill’s work, which confronts and questions social traditions and restrictions such as religion, sexuality and racism. At the same time there is a humorous undertone to Hill’s work, which seems to make light of these very issues.

Brian Hill was born in Cape Town, South Africa, in 1974. He studied photography in Cape Town, specialising in black and white photography. Hill currently lives and works from the Netherlands. His images have been exhibited in numerous solo and group exhibitions both in South Africa and in the Netherlands
