Voeten, in beweging of in rust, blijven hem daarin inspireren.

Open Studio John Blogg

Exhibition: 25 September through 10 October 2026

FINISSAGE SATURDAY 10 OCTOBER 4 -6 PM

Gallery WM is proud to present Where Desire Lands, an exhibition dedicated to the distinctive work of photographer John Blogg. Bringing together a photographic series centred on the female foot, the exhibition explores how sustained and intense attention to a single subject can shape perception, revealing unexpected forms of beauty in what might otherwise pass unnoticed.

“I was four or five years old when an older girl took me for a walk. Sitting together by the water, I noticed her bare feet and red-painted toenails.”

“Beautiful, aren’t they?”, she said to him.

In that moment, something ordinary acquired an unexpected intensity. Whenever John later saw bare women’s feet, the same sensation returned. This memory marks the beginning of a particular way of looking.

Over the years, photography gave John’s attention a visual form. Through his work with dancers and the moving body at the Academy of Modern Dance in Amsterdam, John developed the technical precision required to photograph physical expression. Capturing the essence of feet, whether in motion or at rest, has continued to inspire him.

In conventional portraiture, the face is expected to communicate beauty, personality and identity. John shifts that focus downwards. His photographs ask what happens when a rarely considered part of the body becomes the centre of sustained attention. The feet in these images are not simply anatomical subjects. They exist at the meeting point between the body and the world. They support us, move us forward and bear the traces of how we live. At the same time, through John’s gaze, they become charged with intimacy and desire.

Where Desire Lands refers to the place where the body meets the ground, but also to the intimate and unexpected places where desire itself comes to rest.

John Blogg Open Studio

The upcoming exhibition at WM Gallery features a special addition: an Open Studio where the photographer himself will be present to create new images live. His work centers on a fascination with women’s feet—a recurring theme that also forms the core of the photographic series being presented during this exhibition.

From September 25 to October 10, we are setting up a small photo studio at the back of the gallery. Visitors will have the opportunity to have their feet photographed by Blogg for the cost of production alone. The photograph will be printed especially for them and accompanied by a certificate of authenticity. The finished work can be collected during the finissage on October 10.

Blogg will be personally present in the Open Studio on the following days:

Friday September 25 — during the opening; Friday October 2; Saturday October 3; Wednesday October 7; Thursday October 8
