Arie Plas (1975)

is geboren en getogen in hartje Amsterdam. Optimaal gebruikmakend van de ruimte die het Montessori systeem hem biedt, besteed hij zijn tijd voornamelijk aan het voltekenen van zijn schriften. Na de middelbare school probeert hij het nog op een HTS voor produkt ontwerpen, maar dit is toch niet de creatieve opleiding die hij voor ogen heeft.
Al jaren uitstekend functionerend binnen het Nederlandse gedoogbeleid is hij al snel niet alleen klant maar ook werknemer in de dichtstbijzijnde coffeeshop. Hier houdt hij tussen het koffie zetten, dealen en muziek luisteren nog genoeg tijd over om zijn artistieke talenten tot bloei te laten komen.
Gefascineerd door muziek besluit Arie een cd samen te stellen. Hier worden nummers van zijn favoriete artiesten (Zappa, Beefheart, Talking Heads en JJ Cale) vergezeld van een boekje met hierop geinspireerde tekeningen. Verbindende factor tussen deze illustraties is “The Breeze”: een karakter geinspireerd op de gelijknamige song van JJ Cale. Deze “Breeze” zullen we op de tentoonstelling terugzien in de comic: “Naturally 1#”
Beinvloed door Pop-Art en striptekenaars Andreas en Peter Pontiac, ontwikkelt Arie Plas een geheel eigen stijl waarbij vaak verschillende lagen gekleurd papier gebruikt worden om sterk contrasterende beelden te creëeren. Hierin zijn o.a. uiteenlopende populair culturele iconen zoals: Madonna, Cindy Crawford, maar ook Captain Beefheart en Public Enemy, te herkennen.
De creativiteit van Arie Plas blijft niet onopgemerkt en resulteert uiteindelijk in de expositie:“Allemaal Larie”

Arie Plas (1975)

was born and raised in the heart of Amsterdam. Making optimal use of the space that the Montessori system offers him, he spends his time mainly drawing on his notebooks. After high school he tries his luck at a HTS for product design, but this is not the creative education he has in mind.

Having functioned excellently within the Dutch tolerance policy for years, he soon becomes not only a customer but also an employee in the nearest coffee shop. Here, between making coffee, dealing and listening to music, he still has enough time to let his artistic talents flourish.

Fascinated by music, Arie decides to put together a CD. Here, songs by his favourite artists (Zappa, Beefheart, Talking Heads and JJ Cale) are accompanied by a booklet with drawings inspired by them. The connecting factor between these illustrations is “The Breeze”: a character inspired by the song of the same name by JJ Cale. This “Breeze” will be seen again at the exhibition in the comic: “Naturally 1#”

Influenced by Pop Art and cartoonists Andreas and Peter Pontiac, Arie Plas developed a completely unique style in which different layers of colored paper are often used to create strongly contrasting images. In this, various popular cultural icons such as: Madonna, Cindy Crawford, but also Captain Beefheart and Public Enemy, can be recognized.
