Cindy Marler “Warm Love”

The new photographic work by Cindy Marler has the title “Derriere”

The work consists of photographic scenes of interiors and landscapes. The interiors are warm inviting intimate scenes of human attitudes, lovers embracing, a mother and child, a woman reading, contemplating. Each scene has a window, connecting the scene to the outside world.

The landscapes are a stark contrast to the interiors; the horizontal lines of the Dutch landscape create a surreal, cool almost barren effect. It is a reflective work based on a simple idea. The intimacy of your own space, the caring loving environment that we create around us. Through the window
The other side, a reflection of the world, “what’s out there?” The unknown.

Cindy Marler started exhibiting her photos in 1989. Self taught in the techniques of photography, and coming from the world of theatre she was soon having solo shows in Naarden, Cologne, Rome and various other galleries in Europe and Japan.
Collectors and museums around the world bought her work.

Each solo show is based on an idea close to her own experience in her life at that particular time.
Amsterdam’s Angels (1990) was a direct statement. Portraits of people with wings, standing quietly, looking straight into the camera, as if to say “Here I am”.
Girls’ School (1992) was a photographic essay on her coming of age in a French convent in Africa. Issues on relationships, sex and religion.
Nudes in Naarden (1993) put sensually modern women in Calvinistic locations of historic Holland.
Spirit of Dance (1995) was a journey back into the dance world, showing through photographic techniques how it feels to be a dancer.
Eye2Eye (2000) Portraits of Dutch Women Photographers at the Turn of the 20th century was a historic document and a tribute to her colleges.
Vintage Women (2002) a study of the aging process of international beauties.
And now Derriere (2005) a reflection on life’s simple mysteries, the warmth the intimacy and the unknown.
